The Continental Divide

As you remember, the Continental Divide is an imaginary line which divides which location all rivers flow in North America. All rivers on the east side of the divide flow toward the Atlantic Ocean (or the Gulf of Mexico). All rivers on the west side of the Divide flow toward the Pacific Ocean.

So, you may be asking yourself... "What makes these waters flow in this direction"? Good Question! The reason the waters flow in the direction they do is because of the mountains. We all know that water can not flow UP a mountain.

List 5 other things that can not "go" up a mountain on it's own. Be creative, but accurate.

a rockslide can not go up a mountain. a falling person can not go up a mountain. a mudslide can not go up a mountain. a rainstorm can not go up a mountain. a crippled person can not go up a mountain.
