In the 1800's the Industrial Revolution brought about many new inventions which helped farmers, and textile manufacturers. The United States of America quickly became divided into two sections. The industry section, and the farming section. Both were dependent on each other, but how?
Think about how industry (the making of goods) could be dependent upon farming. What was grown that helped the industry "make" it's goods? Explain your answer to this question. What was grown by the farmers, which was used to help make items in the factory?

The Spinning Jenny was the first machine to increase the production of usable thread. Thread was primarily used to make clothes. Until the spinning jenny, people made their own clothes. But now that thread was able to be produced in greater amounts, factories could more efficiently make clothing. Since factories made clothing, people were now able to buy their clothes.
Explain in your own words why an increase in the production of thread created a desire for people to buy their clothes (hint: the text in the paragraph above explains this)
